91 MGMQGS Grill Support, mystery part?

    Hello forum,
I bought a 91 Grand Marquis GS a couple of months ago. Other than the paint looking like it was driven through a sticker bush from front to back, the car is in great shape. It did, apparently, get punched in the center top of the grill by something at one time. I was under the front bumper today and saw a busted up body fixture behind the grill. It was being held on by two screws up from the bottom, barely. There was also an electrical connector dangling connected to nothing nearby, sort of behind the right side of the grill. I have attached a photo. Any info on what was it, do I need it, where can I get one, and is it related to the dangling connector above it, would be most appreciated.

The messed up paint may be the clear coat peeling, on my 91 the trunk lid has it real bad and the roof is starting to peel but the rest of the paint is decent.
I believe the electrical connector may be for the ambient air temp sensor. If the heat/ac control does not have an auto option then I believe the car would have never had that sensor.
