    Door handles, driven rivets...

Has anyone replaced the outside door handles on a box, and reused the "driven" rivets? I got some like new door handles the other day... (From a 1989 that looked brand new) Anyway I found a video on you tube showing how you can re-use these, figured it would be a lot easier than trying to find some new ones... Unless someone knows a chain building supply company that carries them... Anyway, it says to drive out the center "pin" then take some pliers and crimp the back side "fingers" back together, then reinstall it with the new part, and drive the pin back in... Just wondering how hard it would be to get up in the door to crimp the rivet back together... I don't want to get the door apart, then figure out I can't get up in there to crimp it back... Then have to find some...

I'll post the video link in a second, as soon as I can find it....

    Edit:
OK, here is the video link:
Drive Rivets are perfect for making signs theft and vandal resistant! You use rivet on square posts and only a hammer is needed to apply. SA-SO's Drive Rivet...

IMO that is a waste of time. Drive out the center then drill out the rivet. Replace with new rivets or nut and bolt. This is your door handle. You will want it plenty secure.

considering the look of those driver rivets... they look plenty secure to me.

If possible, I want it to be original... I know not many judges at car shows would look under the handle... but you never know... I will probably work on it tomorrow... I'll let everyone know how it comes out...
