Hood Ornament: "Screw This I'm Outta Here"

I took my car through the car wash this morning. As I exited, I noticed my hood ornament had decided it was a good time to detach itself from the vehicle.

    Are these easy to reinstall?

if the hook on the bottom is still intact... kinda. It's basically a U shaped steel wire with J hooks on the end of each of the U's legs that hold the ornament on the spring.

The bottom of the ornament gave out, so that's how the evil scrubber thingy in the car wash was able to remove the ornament.

I could always just have the stupid thing welded into the base.

On the underside of the header panel there's a large nut that you can get with an adjustable wrench. This way takes the base and all off.

+1!! New ornaments should be available on EBAY. Sometimes, however, the prices are NOT condusive!! That is why when I saw a few for like $5-10 I bought them to hold on to.

Well I recovered the ornament, it's now hanging on my wall.

Maybe this would be a good time to replace it with a webcam...

just pick one up off ebay, i got an original for my Merc for 15 and suprisingly it was damn near perfect. when i bought it mine was broken as well. the adjustable wrench works great. should have a little nub that sticks into a hole to keep it from rotating on you. so dont over torque it or youll snap that off.

I kinda like the later Merc ornaments better than my skinny Lincoln one.

Is it a sin to put a Merc ornament on a Lincoln?

if it's the one from the 88-91... yes. the earlier one... no.

                      I like early merc emblems.

Currently I have a 78 LTD emblem on my CV. From a full size. It's pretty sweet

                        Dear Panthers,
Since the shooting brake is no longer the car that came from the factory I see no reason to keep the little adverts.

When some of the local urchins decided to remove the emblem from the GMCP, I put a Lincoln "gunsite" on mine. Since it has an LSC engine, I thought it was appropriate...
