84 LS 2 door leaking water

    Hey guys,

My marq is leaking water from several places including the door tops, window channels, and cowl and I'm curious if anyone knows where to find replacements for those seals/channel brushes. The cowl is by far the worst, water gets in through the top and seeps out on the inside of the car behind the vent on the passenger side of the firewall.

I keep the car garaged but whenever it rains this becomes an issue

    Any suggestions?

J.C. Whitney should have the aftermarket parts. There is a "write-up" here if you do a search.

Thanks Bob, J.C. Whitney does have the parts for the door, I don't know why i didn't think of that.

I can't identify the other leak to a specific part. I originally thought it was the heater core leaking, but after disconnecting it, it's still leaking. I will post a picture as soon as I take one.

The cowl issue s much more than a bad seal. That seal between the hood and the plastic cowl pieces do nothing really but reduce noise. You have old cracked seam sealer. time to remove the windshield and hood and grind out all of the bad seam sealer and replace with new. I have sourced new pieces for window channels. Search for it, should come up easily.

ps...I moved the thread to the correct spot.

Hm, and I thought I was the only one with water coming in the passenger side area...I can hear wind noise from there too. You may want to check under the carpet, i had a few gallons of water under my rubber matts from that leak, had to remove the entire interior.

and GTvic and Brown, the bit that's leaking is below the cowl, on the firewall, very close to the floor. The book calls it the "air inlet duct assembly" and shows a gasket for it.

Ah! yeah that is the piece i suspected of leaking. kind of hard to get to...wonder if it can be accesses when doing a heater core though? probably impossible to find that gasket anymore though...

^^ If that is like it is on Aeros, it has alittle flap on the drain that hardens with age and causes the water to want to run down the firewall rather than drip onto the ground like its designed to. The water then finds its way into the cabin at the nearest opening. Mt '96 had this problem. Solution was to take some putty (think I just used plumbers putty I had lying around), and do 2 things, 1) seal up around the bottom of the drain since thats where its probably coming in, and 2) create a lip to hopefully encourage the water to drip away rather than run down the firewall. Fixed the leak in the '96 that way, it would get quite wet on the passenger side.

I'm guessing that the little opening on the bottom of that assembly is the drain. I just found another diagram for a town car that shows a similar structure so what else could it be. I'll get to work on it tomorrow and post some photos
