    top glue removing chemial

im thinking of taking the top off the 84 tomorrow. ive heard of using aircraft paint remover but wont that make a huge mess and take it down to bare metal? for now i want to remove it and throw a can of satin black on the roof then throughout next week do the unfinished seam with filler and do the rest of the body work as im going to paint it next week. thanks matt

aircraft remover sucketh.... i tried it, it faileth. if yo want to get it off the easy way, go get a gal of medium paint reducer, it eats through the glue like nothig spray on let sit for 10 min or so, scrape off.

dont think goo gone is powerful enough. We used laquer thinner on my car. Cuts the glue, but it flashes off quick, even in the winter time. This time of year it would probably be impossible to get any glue off before the solvent flashed off. A medium or slow paint reducer wouldn't flash off as quick and would probably work about as well.

nope goo gone wont work very well either, i eanunless you like scraping endlessly for a bit, i tried that too, i tihnk i went through 4 or 5 diff chemicals, before i found how the reducer works. i had it sitting around with my other paint stuff for my ppg paitjob.. (yeah right its still sitting here lol)
at anyrate, all you need is a razor scraper, the wide one that wally world sells works just dandy, a razor knife, a bucket, a spray bottle, and some medium reducer its still going to take time to do, but trust me when i say this stuff works, i used it on my top when i did the slicktop . i dont reccomend stuff just to say this such and such works ya know. now you can use whatever you want dont get me wrong, just trying to save you the hassle of having fits of swearing for hours, becuse the other stuff doesnt work very well. thats all. make sure it gets really soaked in good, that stuff they use on these things is stupidly dense

We used "3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner" when removing that crap off of my roof when i went slicktop.
Didnt even have to use a razor blade, just a plastic putty knife, came off like snot.
We used the big jug that you can pour for the top of the roof, and the aerosol can for the sides, just let it sit for a minute or so, and you'll have no problems.

                  Have fun

k guys got it removed. bought a gal of goof off and it worked great. the seams on her are actually real nice but still needs some bondo work. im keeping the crown on for now to see how it looks. i broke the symbols on the sides so i gotta glue those in and i only found 1 small rust spot under the rear window trim. sorrty for the quality of the pics but it was raning. thanks matt

Didnt realize you had a tudor, nice.
                      Are you going slicktop???
If so, I have a lead on a set of the chrome window trim surrounds for the side windows that you would need to finish off the look.

thank you. im keeping the crown trim on for now. do the chrome window pices extend out further/ larger because i have some ugly spots showing to where my window trim looks to be small and doesnt cover the little spots that i think should be covered. i put about another 5 hours today in body work and bondo. its coming along great but hard work doing by youself. thanks matt

They arent much bigger, if at all. The only part that is different dimensionaly is the bottom part of the trim, it is slightly wider, it goes to the bottom of where the belt molding is.
If you go that way and want to keep the belt molding, you would have to cut it. Thats exactly what I did on mine.
And the chrome ones seem to sit pretty flush to the body, but im not sure how they compare to the original Marquis ones, as I didnt try, I just put mine in a box and put the chrome ones on.
