When someone is tailgating me I like to pull over to the side of the road right before a big pothole. They always hit it !
The best is someone who was tailgating passed me over a double yellow and was way over the speed limit, The police were running radar and he got pulled over. Double wammie !
I never, ever see someone getting nailed by the cops when they should be.
saw a SUV that passed me on residential roads (though a major street... 40mph zone) doing at least 15 over the limit... I was 5 over... ish... the speedo on the Mark isn't correct... so I estimate my actual speed. got pulled over just after making it to the highway. I was amused.
It's rare that I see someone get nailed when driving like an ass... but that was one. Another in recent history (about 2 years ago) was some guy in an explorer bombing through a school zone. must have been at least 40+ in a 20. He got nailed... and that's gotta be an expensive ticket. school zone doubles the amount and 20 over is at least a $200 ticket in that town. There was also plenty of other drivers there... this dick was just weaving through them like a dumbass. I was very glad to see the cops running trap that day.
As much as I've considered doing something like this...the idea of turning an already unsafe situation into a potentially dangerous one is a stupid idea, and always sways me.
Not to mention, if one or two caltrops remain on scene (unless they're barbed, they may not stay in the tire), whoever now driving through that area is at risk of losing a tire. So not only could you potentially hurt the idiot tailgating you, you risk causing damage to innocent bystanders.
A hidden paint ball gun underneath the bumper would be kinda fun...

i still like the smoke idea... it doesnt cause issues but to person(s) behind you... plus it goes away instead of waiting for next victim that may be innocent
I still like my oil mister idea for the same reasons... anything actually left on the road will not be a problem for traction as it will be only a drop here and there.
This is going to be my highbeam-tailgating solution. With a visible range of over a mile, when pointed right into the face of whoever's following me, it should give that motorist the hint to back off.:smirk:
I want a Golight for doing area searches anyways, this is just an added benefit.

Saved from a tragic fate, planned mild restoration. Now with working heat, perfect for the cold winter!
A guy who used to post here a lot reported having once switched on the huge aftermarket backup/loading lights on the back of his pickup truck when someone was tailgating with highbeams on. Can't in good conscience recommend it, but it made for an amusing anecdote.

my uncle used a runway light mounted in his trunk (ex-air force engineer). one guy would chronically talgate him with the high beams on and turn off the last block before the base. It took a large bank of capacitors... a few switches (charge... and discharge)... and some wiring... automatic trunk (popper and good springs). Guy was blinded for a while. off-roaded his truck some too. My uncle went back and checked on the guy... he was in the ditch... no damage to the truck or the guy... and that guy would only run with parking lights on behind my uncle after that. again... highly NOT recommended... but makes for a fun story.

better idea would be to put some low profile driving lights on the rear bumper aimed up a bit. less blinding... more legal. I also discovered a problem recently (with GM vehicles) while I was getting mine inspected. Guy came in with a 1500 and it didn't pass due to the brights indicator being out (yeah... Texas checks for that). I'm thinking that may be a big issue with all the f'n GM trucks that are always running with their brights on... that... or the people driving them are just dicks.
at the idea that someone wouldn't know their high beams are on. Still, some people are so oblivious that it's a very distinct possibility.
plenty of times I've seen people not know that only their parking lights were on... no just the DRL's were on... I also know some idiots that drive with their brights on "cause I can see better" with no regard for other drivers being blinded by them and having possible head-on collisions on two-way roads.
people in general are oblivious to their own self-centered nature. I've also met a few that thought the bright beam indicator just meant the headlights were on and had no clue about bright light switches, yet had a legal driver's license.
