used glass has little pits and scratches and stuff. Theres also the risk of it shattering or leaking. You may want to pull your old one from the car yourself to verify no rust is present around the windshield frame. do not nick the paint either, or it will start to rust. The front corner of my roof has been replaced and it was mostly caused by a leaky windshield that I didn't fix right away.

I second that. Pull the glass yourself and check for nasty surprises.

We pulled the glass ourselves on both the school project Chevelles, and it was pretty easy. We had the front and rear glass installed professionally though, and there was zero chance of us getting it as nice and clean as the job they did.

If possible, find a glass guy recommended by a local classic car club, or maybe a mustang or camaro club. Anyone that will certify they can work with older/deteriorated frames and mouldings and will be respectful of the car.

220 is high, you should be able to get a new windshield installed for around 175

safelite wants $224. I'm going to call around some more and see what prices i can get. I think i am going to have it done by the pros but ill check out the car when they have the windshield off.

avoid safelite. they use the cheapest POS glass they can get and charge almost the most for install. I had to replace the glass in my 93 because the damn crap (XYG crap) was warped inward right in front of the driver. XYG also does not honor any warranties and led me on a wild goose chase for 2 weeks supposedly getting a supplier to replace the glass. I finally told them they can take their BS and shove it and got a local installer (yeah... local... XYG wanted me to drive 45 miles one way to some hub center that also installs glass to have it done) to install some PGW glass. It's actually clear and doesn't have internal delamination streaks down the middle of the glass (the XYG glass was litterally peeling apart from the inside out).

now if you can find someone to install CarLite glass (OEM for our cars) for $220... that might be a deal.

Interesting read so far; I didn't realize anyone ever made aftermarket-replacement exterior ANYTHING for a Box panther.
