Towncars are not weird. They have a logical keying system. One key for doors and ignition, and a separate key for glovebox and trunk. Fords have a stupid keying system. You have to hand someone both keys in order to let them unlock the door and start the vehicle. Towncars were designed for valet parking with the idea of securing your drugs and other evidence in the trunk or glovebox and not having the valet able to access those items.

And an 88 would have been optional with keyless entry. I doubt anything was changed. Trust me, nobody (but me) is going to bother with installing a factory keyless entry setup in a non-keyless vehicle.

Ooooooh. Never thought about valet parking, since I'm not sure I've ever personally used a parking service. I remember my mom being extremely perturbed once after going to a restaurant with valet parking and insisting the valet had deliberately left a Coke cup under the pedals in an unsafe manner. Very disconcerting to sit in the back seat on I-294 while the driver yells and twists around and tries to reach the floorboard with the seatbelt fastened instead of just pulling over.

Really? Didn't know it existed back then, except maybe as that keypad thing that I never think about anymore.

Then what's with all the threads I've seen in the past about people dealing with cars that've been messed up with aftermarket keyless entry systems? Or is that remote start systems I'm thinking of ....

Its the lincoln's styling that keeps me attracted to it. So keyless entry would be hot, but i also think it would be a pain to install and pricey. In the next few days i'll take another stab at it or see if i can get a key made
