    No key to trunk

When i got my car it did not come with a key to the trunk. I currently use the Keypad or button on the inside to get in. Anyone have ideas to what i can do to get a key made? I thought i could replace the cylinder but it looks welded to the trunk lid

    thoughts, ideas?

    Thanks

It's not welded. Gotta take that emblem off, there's a retainer on the inside of the trunk, that holds it, just like on the doors. You gotta pull the trunk lid carpet off. There's a rod that has to be disconnected from the lock cylinder. You'll get it out.

Take the lock cylinder into your local locksmith's and have them make you a key. Or better yet, have it rekeyed to match what you've already got.

My question is, why would a PO first install a non-matching trunk lock, and then go to the trouble of installing all that keyless entry junk? (unless it's a newfangled one that came with keyless entry and then someone installed a mismatched trunk lock because they were silly)

Oh, weird. The only two-key system I've seen is a square one for the ignition and a round one for the doors and trunk. Well, except for my '79 which came to me with one square key for the doors (tailgate too IIRC), a mismatched one for the ignition, and a round key for the interior compartments.

Still, I imagine your local locksmith can fix the situation to your satisfaction.

Thats strange. Like Mike said..the norm is two keys. One for the doors and trunk and glove box and one for the ignition.

Police package cars had a one key fits all deal.

Also, may I remind everyone that Town Cars are weird.

And it is actually pretty convenient: less fumbling, fewer keys to carry, and less baffling to people who've only owned and driven really-really new stuff. One reason I've often considered reusing the door locks from that old '79 Squire for something else (once I have an ignition switch rekeyed to match, or vice versa).
