Can we talk about headlight restoration again?

The only thread I found here on GM was from '07 I think and that method required wet sanding then buffing and dude mentioned only doing 1 headlight a day cuz of the time consumption.

Just curious if anyone has done this recently and the methods used as well as the results. Anyone tried any kits sold at AZ or AAP?

2001 GM, My lights have a bit of oxidation on the outside, I would like to clean them up, which I believe I can do, but more importantly, I notice there seems to be a cloudy/haze look coming from the INSIDE of the headlight assembly.

On my old 97 I tried the sanding/power buffing with polishing compound. It worked, but I still had the hazing on the inside as you mentioned.

I found new units on ebay, $160 for the pair total. Good luck.

The kits do work. 1000-1500 grit sandpaper and then a polish and a wax will work too. It's sort of a law of diminishing returns thing. 10 minutes work will get you a big improvement, but you can spend another day to get it absolutely perfect.

I did this last week to my 94 Escort.

Soapy water in a squirt bottle, 1000 grit paper and 2000 grit paper (I wanted to use 800 as well but I had none). Clean the area good first, mask off all the surrounding areas then wet down the area with the soapy water and sand away with the most aggressive leading to the most fine paper. Occasionally clean the headlight to see your progress. After I was satisfied with how it looked I polished them with Blue Magic headlight lens restorer on a rotary drill sponge thingy attachment. Buffed the remains with a towel and then protected them with some 303 aerospace protectant.

Here is how it started and turned out.

I remember reading somewhere you should coat them with a clear spray of some sort to protect them from UV.
