Speed Blaster sand blaster

I recently purchased one of these little guys from Eastwood. I used it this weekend to take care of a few rust spots on my '90 GM's right rear door. It worked great. For an abrasive, I used aluminum oxide. Very easy gun to work with and control. My 20 gal. air compressor handled it fairly well.

i have something similar that we picked up at harbor freight to do some spot blasting on thains car.......woorks real well for 15 bucks, we are also using aluminum oxide and garnett

Make sure you get extra tips. When the tip erodes, they don't work worth a damn. Change the tip, and you'll be good to go.

We had one, but I never really liked it. I bought a unit from MAC tools, thats really neat. Its just a gun with a hose, and a beveled tip. You stick it in a bucket of sand, hook up the air supply, and go to town. It works much better than the speed blaster. I think it was $75, but the tips last longer, and it is generally a better performing piece.

We also have a 10 gallon mini blaster, but the tip broke. It was better than the MAC unit, but was cheaply made.

For big jobs, my Dad has a 50 gallon blaster. It makes quick work of anything.

If you go Harbor Freight, I'd suggest spending the extra $5 or so on the bigger one that looks like the one shown above. I cheaped out and got their smaller one for like $10, and it ended up jamming and I haven't yet gotten it working again. I was using sifted play sand for blasting media, though - lots of dust probably clogs things quicker than proper graded blast media.
