It was more like you insisting you could puncture a hole in the fender with a screwdriver (or was it a crowbar?) and then smashing the clips when the crowbar slid along the panel instead of penetrating it.

I went to put the single clip we got off intact on the car the other day and can no longer find it. I think I put it someplace safe where I wouldn't lose it, and then forgot where I put it.

Do any of the various trim clip reproducers make that particular one? I know there are guys at Carlile with bins and bins of various trim attachment devices.

I haven't found new ones yet. When I do, I'll pass it on.

Then I'd just wait if I were you. Maybe hit all the rusty areas with some POR-15 to keep it from spreading. Bondo and spray bombing it will turn out like shit.

I wanted to sand down the rust, then hit it with some neutralizer, primer, and paint. It will have be sanded down and repainted anyway when it gets done for real. Right now I just want to keep the body from getting out of hand while keeping it half-descent looking.

take some pics so we can see what type of rust you are dealing with, best bet is to cut the bad rust out and weld new metal in but you need tools and skills for that
media blasting is best, but grinding it out and using rust treatment filler and paint will work in some cases.

and if you only got small random blisters and rust in door jams, a hobby grinder and hobby blaster might just be enough.

yea u can get away with using a hobby blaster with a small air compressor.......i just dont know if he has one........harbor freight has the hobby blasters for under 20 bucks, and they usually have a small portable air compressor on sale for 99 bucks......it's enough to get a few seconds of blasting in before letting the tank fill back up, no sense in spending a fortune for a giant compressor he has no room to store

I took a DA to the light surface rust on my car with some 36 grit pads. The larger stuff I had to sandblast (not fun). Then I used bondo, metal were needed, and red putty. The best bet is to weld in the new metal if its structural. My quarters have sheet metal riveted on, but youd never know. Sometimes you can get away with this.
