    Need Something Strong...

Hey y'all, I had a pair of stick-on fins on the front corners of the Merc's hood. It uses the same adhesive tape that you'd find on the fake fender vents and all. Well, they we hollow and water soaked the adhesive tape and the ice expanded and popped the tops of them off. So now I need to remove what's left. It's not just a residue, it's the entire adhesive tape...what would be good to use to try to scrape the damn things off??

And on a related topic, over the summer, somebody left a bag of gummy worms on the seat...they proceded to melt and now I have a colorful waxy residue in the crease of my passenger seat. I tried removing it before, but couldn't get all of it out using Goo-Gone and Tuff-Stuff cleaners. Any other suggestions on what to use that won't destroy the fabric?

I don't know bout the stick on fins..But the gummy worms...Go and get gum remover in a aerosal can....Its freezes the stuff and then you jsut pick it off with a knife or something sharp.....By the way I was just thinking your car is missing some curb feelers....

For the hood you can try something like stripe off wheels

I have seen them used before and the paint underneath was unharmed. I was amazed.

          Use this:

Blows away everything else, and so far safe on paint.

You can also use polish and elbow grease to remove adhesive residue.

Those eraser wheels work great, though.

+100 on eraser wheel, I work at body shops and we use them all the time. they take off anything from pin stripe to adhesive tape. Just dont use them on a plastic part they will melt the plastic.

An eraser wheel huh? Is that used with an electric drill? Or does it have it's own special motor tool?

Never heard of or seen that before. I'll have to keep my eye out for it...

straight rubbing alcohol will not etch the clear and works well just let it soak a little and make sure to clean it with soap and water after, ive used it on my car with no problems and know others as well who have, just make sure its straight isopropyl.

wd40 actually works decently to dissolve many adhesives and it doesn't destroy paint. That 3M thing looks like a good idea too. They make good stuff.

Use some of this as well to put the fins back on:

No foam in that tape. Holds on like a mofo. 3M makes the same exact thing (might be the same actually, I have used both).

I've used one to remove the side trim adhesive. It does work. Smells like a paper that's been erased too many times. Work great!!
