    front end removal

I'm thinking it will be a fuck of a lot easier to install the tranny cooler if I take the front bit/grill etc out - Is this how most would do it?

Anyway, what I'm wondering about is where to start when trying to remove it, what I need to remove in what order etc...basically anything you can tell me about it.

I know on my CV there is just some screws and the grill comes off. Should be very similar with your model.

Start looking for screws. If you don't see anything from the outside, it might be bolted to the header panel like town cars. I don't recall how exactly the grille comes off on one of those...

You mean just the grille right? Not the header panel?

Yup, if it's anything like a pre-'88 there's nothing to it. Just 6 or 8 or so screws hidden between the grille slats that you remove with your trusty #2 Philips.

I don't know what I mean. I'm learning this stuff as I do it.

Whatever I need to get out of the way to install a tranny cooler

Once you remove the grille you will have an immense amount of room to work with.

You under no circumstances want to remove the header panel (actual front of the car ahead of the fenders) because that is just a pain in the but and not necessary.

if you wanted to though, it's only like 6 or 10 nuts and all the wiring for the lights and off it comes  What size tranny cooler are you goin with? A small one or a large one?

Not sure of the physical size of the unit but there was a light duty and a heavy duty, so I took the heavy duty...I'll grab a pic of it when I get home from work.

                      LOL @ your cat...

I installed the B&M 8.5x11 cooler on my car, with the front clip completely off. I can grab a pic tomorrow of it installed. I went to Menards and got some 1/8" thick by 1 inch wide aluminum stock and made my own brackets for it. The cooler looks like it would be very easily installed with only the grill removed [and if you have a steering cooler that would need to be unbolted too]. You should be able to get your measurements and line it up/bolt it down without having to much hassle.

FOUND A PIC! I circled the tranny cooler. I think this can be easily done removing only the grill. My aluminum "custom" brackets are bolted using 1/4" stainless hardware to existing holes in the core support.

FYI, 1990LTD: that braided AN line is overkill. You can get away just fine with rubber and barb fittings, or get 5/16" brake line and adapters if you want to get fancy.

I went braided because of personal preference, and because I wanted the looks. But yes, you can use good quality rubber hose and clamps and it will work just fine.
