How do I check to see if my car is a LTD? I saw a pic of the interior dash badge for LTD's and it looked allot like this glue silhouette I have on my dash. First, I was wondering how I can tell if my car is a limited, and also, how can I safely get the glue off the wood? I tried to wipe it off but it just smears.

Do I own a LTD? And how to get off glue?

LTD didn't really mean "Limited" in the Ford lineup for a long time, it was basically a model name applied to what used to be a Galaxie back around 1970, and the name stuck. From '79 to '82, the base fullsize car was just called "LTD", with "Crown Victoria" referring to a particular option package that included the little tiara-looking wide band on the roof (similar to the "Crown Victoria" option package on the '50s Fairlane Victoria). For '83, the compact Fairmont got a facelift and was renamed LTD, so all the fullsize cars started being called "LTD Crown Victoria" regardless of trim level - in this case, not an option package, but an entirely different car. After the baby LTD was killed off for the '87 model year, the "LTD Crown Victoria" monikker continued on another few years until I think 1992 when the LTD part was dropped and Ford's biggest sedan became known as just plain "Crown Victoria".
So the short answer is, LTD was not a fancy option package of the Crown Victoria, but in fact in the earlier years of the Panther chassis it was actually the other way around.Last edited by 1987cp; 08-27-2009, 08:16 AM.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

In order to help you figure out this very complex question, I've constructed this easy-to-use flowchart. Hope it helps.

my car starts and it has AC. Yours doesn't start and it has no AC. Seems obvious to me.

Where is it on the dash? It could very easily have been something that a previous owner glued on there and later removed. I've had good luck with products like 3M Adhesive Remover for getting glue residue off, but you'd want to test it on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it wasn't going to damage the dash.

Colony Park badge on the dash? And on a sedan? :p
How late were they putting those "Ride Engineered" plaques on the dash of the Grand Marquis? Suppose it's also possible it just said "Grand Marquis", but I know little about the later models.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!
