difference between 79 to 83 and 84 to 87 two door?

Is there any difference in the door frame? did 79 to 83 NOT come with vent windows or something? I ask because i found something i REALLY want and it specifies 79 to 83....so whats the catch?

I had a 1983 and a 1984 Grand Marquis 2-door. Its been 16 years since I traded in the '84, but from what I remember, the two cars were identical. The '84 did have vent windows and the '83 didn't, but every structural part of the door was the same.

awesome information. Thanks.. It seems all interchange manuals always specify a break between 83 and 84...i always wonder why.

The earlier ones with vent windows had the turny knob to open the window instead of the lock lever that you have. Thats probably about it.

Not sure if i would say they were cool, but they do make the vent windows looks cleaner.

I always wanted to convert those to power wing vents, just for the hell of it.

I'd like to see that done, honestly. Would make getting trims for them a lot easier if they were like towncars!!

My '81 has vent windows with the twisty knobs. I'm guessing vents weren't available for '79 and '80 due to the early sideview mirror design.

Towncars don't have wingvents. They have the much less useful dropping vent. I'd love real wingvents in a Towncar, but I'm not about to re-engineer the door to make it happen. What I'd like to do with one of the twisty vents is have it operate like stock, but have a motor driving the mechanism. Yeah, it'd be mostly useless but neat in a "look at what I can do" way.

woah...the towncar vent windows roll down just like the windows? I always thought they just tilted out but with a motor.
