    Dear Panthers,
I figured roadsters would be the best bet & sure enuf Corvette has power heated door-mounted mirrors but NOBODY- far as I can tell has auto dimming door mounts.

Corvette mirrors sound a bit expensive but I'm interested to see the outcome. I'm planning to tow my camper with my GM so I want larger mirrors but I don't want the huge towing mirrors that someone in the 80's would have just bolted to the door. I was thinking of just wondering through the junkyard someday to see what I find, problem is that most things have the mirrors gone since it is a common part to get busted in a parking lot.

I have done some searching and I found that the Saturn Sky Roadster, Pontiac Solstice, as well as the new Ford Fiesta all come equipped with door mounted mirrors, if those mirrors have all of the functions you are looking for is another story.

I'm interested in seeing the outcome of these swaps. I wouldn't mind having heated and/or larger mirrors myself. Going from the HHR with huge mirrors to the Marquis with little squares is a world of difference.

And I've been wondering what that black box is in the trunk...now I need to play with it...

            Dear Panthers,
Looking closer at the larger, heated, auto-dimming mirrors:

These mirrors ride on the doors too. They are attached upfront to a triangular thingee - metal? Heavy plastic? and the window glass slides up and down in the space between mirror and matching interior plastic thingee.

I don't see why a skilled fabricator couldn't adapt both triangular thingees to a panther (or fabricate custom thingees) and run the wiring through the door.

I was looking through the automotive department when I was at F&F last night and they have a selection of generic and semi-generic replacement mirrors. One looks very promising to mount to the door of our box panthers. It is not heater or anything like that but it is much larger than the mirrors on our cars. So if you are mainly looking for size like I am they may do the trick. They are only around $14 too. I'm not sure if they will look the greatest so I'm still going to keep my eye open for other mirrors.

Was paying attention to the mirrors on cars in the parking garage at work this morning and I noticed a few that might work. I saw a few newer civics that had dour mounted mirrors and an old ranger. Also the mini cooper has door mounted mirrors, the mount is curved to the door but might be able to be modified.

                  Dear Panthers,
The minicoopers won't do it. What I'm looking for are aspheric. auto-dimming, heated exterior mirrors. They seem to be available only on new luxury models and all I've seen fit in that little triangle thingey in the front of the door.

It would be real nice to have a heated mirror that eliminated the blindspot and dimmed when some overtaking car didn't.
