    89 GM lower body trim

I finally got around to washing the car today. Well to my dismay, I have rust starting to bubble around the lower trim on my passenger doors. How bad is it to remove/reinstall these pieces? I want to see how bad it is, and figure out whether it's better to repair, or replace the doors. While I'm on the subject of rust, are there any products that anybody has used that will neutralize, and stop the rust? I know POR-15 has been around for sometime, and EASTWOOD has their own stuff, and there are others out there. Any comments, opinions, and/or ideas would be appreciated. Now that the time has come for the weather to start breaking, I know I'm not the only one heading down this road, and it's time to get our cars ready for summer. BTW, I just realized my post title, and I mean the Black plastic trim that runs from the front bumper to the rear bumper, and not the trim on the rocker panels.

With the rust bubbling there's likely to be more underneath the, I guess they call it belt molding? Eastwood and Por-15 indeed have their own products to treat and seal off rust and I've personally used both. I think they both work well though everyone has their own opinions. I tend to use Por-15 more often. The great part about Eastwood is thier converter and encapsulator are both available in aerosol form. For a budget repair, I would probably remove the trim, if it's not to terrible I'd:
    1. Clean up the rust
    2. Use Eastwood Rust Converter (can)
    3. Top off with Por-15 or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator (spray can or brush)

and if you want to cover the black sealer, a tie primer coat and some aerosol touch-up from Paintscatch.com and put the molding back on.

If its worse, such as big holes and you need to put new metal in you may want to enlist some help.
