there is a crown vic around here with a merc header panel .the hood looks like it was the orig.

That is correct if the crown victoria is an 88 and up.

87 and down Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis used different hoods. The hood that was used ALWAYS from the gran marquis was then used from 88 to 91 on the crown victoria. I believe thats how the story goes.
