    door swap?

My '89 Grand Marquis was involved in a hit and run many years ago, someone backed into the right front door in a parking lot, and took off, dented the door up pretty bad. The car was parked not long after that, and has just sat with the dented up door for like 12 years now. I am working on getting the car back on the road for my grandparents to drive (they bought the car brand new) because they want to keep the mileage down on their '05 F150.

Anyway, there is a '91 Grand Marquis in the local Pull-A-Part that is the same color (or damn near it) with the same side trim on the door as my car has, so it would be a perfect match for the car from the outside. The only thing different, is the interior door panel. It's has blue interior on the junkyard car, and the panel is a totally different style then in my car, which has more of a maroon-ish colored interior. Will my '89 interior door panel swap onto the '91 door without any problems? And as for the door itself, I assume it will bolt on with no problem, but what about the wiring for the power window and locks? Will it be plug and play?

    Thanks!

Yes you will be able to use your door panel easily. There should be a main door harness that should unplug from the rest of the car, so you can easily use the wiring from the other door. Question, are the doors the same? I mean, do they both have the same features? Some cars came with illuminated entry, some had vent windows, others didn't.

make sure you are not doing this yourself. Swapping a door is hard even with two people, i could have easily used another set of hands swapping my door.

Yes, the doors are identical as far as options go. Both have the square illuminated doohickey around the key, neither have vent windows, just one big power window. The '91 has "premium sound" with the speaker in the door, where as the '89 doesn't. I assume that has more to do with the door panel itself then the door, though?

            Thanks guys.

Yes it's the door panel itself. The speaker is mounted in a ring. The speaker is held by 3 screws. The ring is then screwed into the door frame. Which has the old 4 screw set up found on your door.

I got the door today, $31.00. Also got the lower piece of side trim off the rocker panel that the car I'm working on is missing, they just gave me that.

Well this may be true, but I wish you luck finding where it unplugs at without doing some major dissasembly on the dash. After the harness from the door enters the car, it snakes up past the top of the heater box and goes into no man's land. I ended up just unplugging each plug to the switches, P/W motor, etc. in the door and just leaving that harness with the car.

My EVTM shows that there is a door wire harness connector behind the passenger side kick panel. What you did works too lol.

yeah sorry lol that's what happends when you have add lol. yeah swaping the lock rod is not that hard also like what everyone is saying make sure you have at least 3 people to help you but he door on 2 is not enough. that's the hardest part of it all having someone hold the door up while you run the wiring in the new door and bolting it up. plus 31 dollars is a good price for a door my yard wanted 75.00 lucky I got my door around scott's for 25.00 let us know how your progess it coming

I installed the door on my own yesterday, took a couple of hours. Matches the car pretty good, the colors are just barely off between the door and the rest of the car. and the car has a red pinstripe that runs above the door handle where as the door has a blue pin stripe that runs below the handle. No biggie though, doesn't have to be perfect, and certainly looks way better then the door with the huge dent in it. Wish I would have took pictures now.

The power window motor seems to be seized up in the new door though, so I'll have to swap the motor out of the old door. It appears I'm going to have to drill three holes in the door to get at the screws that attach the power window motor? It looks impossible to get at them from the access hole, and I notice that there are three dimples in the sheet metal of the door that coincides with the location of the screws.

nope you will have to drill those dimples to get at the screws holding the motors in. did you find it easy to swap the key lock rod ? did you get the door aligned right?

What he said, and if I remember correctly, the bolts are 1/4'' Make sure you drill holes big enough to fit the socket through there easily so you don't accidentally drop the socket in the door. Also, make sure you have the window supported some way so the window doesn't come down and chop your hand off when you pull the motor out. While you're in there, grease the track that the regulator runs, just to make everything run smoothly and quietly.

Oh shit, I forgot, this is a '91 door, they changed the window motors slightly in 1990, so you're gonna have to change the window motor regulator if you want your original motor to work. That's 4 rivets. You will want to take that out as a single piece. I ran into this problem when I tried to run a '90 power window motor in my Vic. I could only get two bolts in the motor, so I don't know how it would work going the reverse path.
