Here is the air dam i made for mine. Mostly used to deflect air from under the body up into and through the radiator.

unfortunatly i dont have any better pictures of it.

You could extend it even wider, or could just mount it to the bottom of the front bumper

One reason the european cars have a belly pan under the engine is because of there strict noise resstriction codes. There is sound deadner attachet to it.

and the main reason is because of the dang Marmots. One of their favorite things to do is to climb up and chew on your spark plug wires. There was a rash of that going on in the south of germany way back when. Was on the news almost nightly.
First the manufacturers covered the spark plug wires, then they started putting whole engine covers on. A nice byproduct was that it was great for the slipstream. I was living with my uncle back then. Marmots got the neighbors car two doors down, then one door up, then my uncles car. I had a VW bug. It was already shielded. The part that sucked was I had to get up early and take him to work, and then wait for the tow truck.

I don't know about the engine pan itself but none of the other shrouds I had to remove in order to replace the bumper cover had any sound deadener. They were all just black molded plastic.

I couldn't find the "nice Marmot" quote.

the bodies of these cars look as aero dynamic as a brick, would a body pan really make any noticable diffrence?

Yes. They may be boxy, but at least they are smooth. That's the problem here. The underbody of a car is "noisy" if you will, when it comes to aerodynamics.

I've got a Ranger Off Road stainless steel engine skid pan I'm gonna try to make fit. I also noticed that 90s Silverados have nice bumper air dams that might work.

well to be honest it helps alot to be a little more aero. For instance, I have the capability to choose to ride just a couple of inches off the ground. When i take long trips i set the suspension low for compfort and i noticed i pick up about another 30-40 miles to a tank. So underbody streamlining can take alot of that same drag right out.
