changing from 87 to 88 front and rear????

ok i have in mind, far in the back of it to be exact, to change the front end, possibly rear, from a 1988 Crown Vic to my 1987 Crown Vic.

What are the pieces i must get from the 1988 front and rear to make this work.

Reason for asking is because many years back my header panel got crunched because some ASSHOLE with a spare mounted on the rear of truck backed into me, in the middle of the night, and my hood is looking like it has seen better days, just wasn't crunched from accident, juts looks like shit.

i would like an idea of what i would need to get.

The 88+ rear end won't swap directly over, there will be some modification that will have to be done to make it fit correctly, but you would need the, Decklid/Tailights and Rear Bumper/Filler Pieces.

The 88+ front end will swap directly on, you will need of course the Header Panel, and then the Front Bumper/Filler Pieces, as well as the Hood. I believe that's all.

The front end IS a direct bolt-on.

EDIT: that was reply to 86vickylx's post before he deleted it.

Since you aren't afraid to have stuff painted, there was a '87 style front clip on one of the cars at Shorty's. The hood was fucked up but the clip was fine. BTW, that Merc you took the door off is still there, they kinda rearranged the setup so now the Mercurys are in front of the Vics.

funny that they would rearrange everything. just seems like alot of unnecessary work to me, a junkyard is a junkyard WTF. I sort of abused that 2 door mercury, my dad was in a rush and just wanted to get the hell out of there. i must admit that some unadvisable techniques were used in striping that car. anyways, it was just a thought about the front and rear.

But if i do go to another yard, either yours or harrys up in hazelton, PA, i will prolly be getting just a 87 style header panel and bumper (cause mines is f****d up), or a complete 88 front. as well as some e7 heads for the future.

88 front: Bumper and shims, header panel, fender extensions, hood. The fenders might require a little work too.

Rear: Trunklid, bumper and shims, fender extensions. Drilling is required, as is modification for the later model trunk latch. Honestly? I'd stick with the 87-back vic stuff. The 88-up merk stuff is another story though...

i was afraid of hearing the f-word, FENDER. i thought i may squeak without having to touch them or get 88 style fenders, idk if they are the same or not.

The Fenders should be the same. If not, it should only require a little dremel action to the header panel mounting holes, or drilling a few new holes, to make the 88+ header panel fit correctly on the 87 fenders.

Are the rear quarters where the taiilight extensions are the same though? I thought thats where most of the hard work was.

It would seem to me that the rear quarters are the same between the earlier and later models. I have done some visual inspection, and from a manufacturing standpoint, I just don't think it would make sense that they be different.

The front fenders are externally the same. Maybe the mounting is a little different, I am not sure.

I would agree with Tom on this though. I think the pre '88 CV is more attractive than the '88+ (although, I am partial to the later CVs). However, I like the later Mercury front end better than the earlier.

I think a pre '88 front/ rear swap on a '90-'91 would be nice; the updated dash and such, but it still looks old school.

I experimented with this once in the junkyard, the rear end. The tail light housings from the '88 Would not fit in the '87 style. It looked as if you needed to drill other holes for them.

i have seen this swap done on a 87, i believe, two door on cardomain.com but that was over two years ago and i just searched and came up empty. the car was blue, and he swapped to the 88 front and rear.

If anyone knows of this car i would like the linky. please.

till then i will continue my search.
