    Full Skirt Estimate

I went out and had an estimate done for a full-length fender skirt.

To use the existing skirt, reshape it and add an extension that bubbles enough to clear the wheel and all, 20 hours of work.

Or an estimate of $2000, and then whatever it costs to paint and blend...

I know nothing of fiberglass work. I know it'll be tedious and time consuming to do it. Anyone gotta idea if that's a reasonable price or not? I don't have many options to where I can go for this kinda work around me...

You would seriously pay $2000+ for a fender skirt?
2011 Mustang GT Premium, MT82, Kona/Saddle, HIDs, 3.73s, 19s, hood/side stripes, UPR 1.5" springs with adjustable panhard bar, and UMI solid LCAs and relocation brackets.
1992 Explorer Eddie Bauer, slight lift, 34s, and A/C...
1979 Bronco Custom, 351M/C6/NP205, 4" lift, 35s, lots of fender trimming.

It is alot of work to make the parts, especially when the mounting has to be thought out and fabricated. $2000 is still alot to me, and it seems ridiculous when you consider there would be painting on top of that. I'd say $200 done for quality work would be a fair price, but unpainted, it seems high. They get $100/ hr (thats not unfair for custom work)? 20 hours doesn't seem like a very long time to do the work, seeing as its basically just two days. However, I guess it wouldn't be that hard for a professional.

I'd recommend you get a few more estimates, Scott, and make sure you see the work that these shops do. If you are willing to pay good money, then you have the right to recieve good quality. It would be very easy to do the job wrong, which would be hard to stomach. I'd shop some more, and ask around. If you are uncomfortable with knowing what is "good work", find someone who knows and ask for recommendations, or ask what they think of work done by the shop.

Hate to break it to ya, but that is what custom work costs. And $100/hr, that's cheap for custom work. Most dealerships charge that much or more for the same job their mechanic does every day.

Best option though is to research online how to do fiberglass work. Go at it slow, learn a new skill, and when you've finished making your own set all by your self you will be so damn proud.

Went back to 'em today. Talked with the owner, and he said they could do it for less than $1000, painted and installed. Much better sounding then before.

I'll be looking it up when I have time before jumping to 'em to do it. I'd like to know exactly how it's done and all. Maybe I could do it myself if I can fabricate a moulding when I have some free time...

I'm in autobody. I'll do it for you for $300 plus those bumper guards.

FG work isn't too bad to do. Just time consuming and messy.

To me, if your charging a Hundo+ an hour you had better be doing Chip Foose quality work.

I don't do much fiberglass work, I'm a Sheetmetal mang, but the guys at my shop would do you right, and I'm willing to bet they would only charge you $500 Painted and Installed.

Foose work I'd bet is more like 5 bills an hour( or near a grand). Dealer labor per hour is north of 100 bucks these days.

Yep, I could see Foose charging a Grand an hour. I'm sure it would be worth it though, (from what I've seen on Overhauling) if you had the money to spend like that.

Especially when you have a flat tire on the rear of the car and need to get that fender skirt off to change the tire out by the side of the road in the middle of the night during a rainstorm.

                            :p

Nah, I'm not gonna criticize you for it- if it's the look you want, go for it. Wouldn't be my choice, but everyone wants their car to look a little different from the other guys'.

Those are the ones I have on my car right now. Half skirts, no trim.

That's what Triple A's for. Make them do the hard stuff. The Marquis ain't gonna be used for much more of a weekend warrior anyways. The HHR is for work and whatnot.
