Best cheap primer/surfacer in a spray can?

Just buy some damn clear and paint it Michael. What the hell? What brand base did you use? Buy the same brand of clear...

The standard Duplicolor RC Clear is compatible with all base coats. Seems to be decent quality stuff judging from the few times I have used it. Have never tried any other RC Clear, since most of the cc'ing I do is with a paint gun and with very expensive clearcoat.

Someone in a bad mood? I've actually done that already with some clear Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel from AutoZone ... aside from not really spraying all that well (which is a minor inconvenience), reports indicate that acrylic enamel really isn't that durable, so it'd be nice to follow it up with something that might be able to better hold up to the chips'n'stones abuse front bumpers tend to see. I do have two partial cans of somewhat older Plasti-Kote clearcoat intended for autobody use that may be more durable, but experiments so far indicate that its solvents tend to partially redissolve most stuff I've tried spraying it on top of (including current color coats), often resulting in splotchy coloring .... thus the need to either experiment extensively (at my expense) or dig for info.

The Duplicolor rattlecan clears I'm easily turning up include the clear Acrylic Enamel I've been playing with so far, the clear High Performance Wheel Coating which may work well, clear Engine Enamel, and clear Professional Acrylic Enamel, which might be somewhat better than what I've been using. There's also the tiny cans of clear for autobody repairs, but I'd like to avoid those unless I can find them in bigger cans like the Truck Paint line of body colorcoats.

I've used both the Duplicolor Enamel Clear, and the Clear wheel coating, back when I polished my turbines and re-cleared them. The High Performance Wheel Coating seems to be a little better quality, and more resistant to chipping. Since you are gonna be clearing a Front Bumper which will be subject to road debris/stones, I would go with the Clear wheel coating, as it should fair a little better under more harsh conditions.

OK, cool. I'll see about getting some clear wheel paint later today. Need to get the clear layer built up so I can wetsand and buff and get the thing smooth. If this stuff doesn't dissolve right through the clear Acrylic Enamel that's on there already (as the Plasti-Kote stuff was trying to do), I should be all set!
