I just got some bad ass headlights for my 89 gm, but Im affraid that I am going to burn up the wiring harness if I use these lights. I plugged one light up and the bulb started to smoke a little. Any suggestions on how I can safely make these lights work? The lights I have are in the link below. Thank you!!!

I bought a hraness off of Summit; but it was discontinued. Thats too bad, because for $35 I'd much rather buy a premade harness than try to put something together myself.**2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302: 5.0/ 6 spd/ 3.73s, 20K Cruiser

You MUST upgrade the wiring please!!!!!!
The make pricey kits, but you can put something together yourself if you are good with wiring. Find some high amp headlight connectors , 14gauge wiring and some relays rated in amps to handle your headlights.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

I rolled my own with wire and relays. Its not hard at all. Mine still needs some split loom tube, as I keep forgetting to order more but otherwise its been in place and working for a good 6+ months now. Even with stock headlamps, I noticed a difference. I measured the voltage at the headlights before and after the relay kit and it was a bit over 2 volts of difference, which is plenty enough to notice.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Perhaps shitty bulbs that came with the kit?
Wiring might not be the problem, but you should probably upgrade it anyway.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

Here ya go, i hate to have to link to a another crown Vic forum BUT its all in the name of good panthers right?
That should get you started in the right direction, It made for a 98-on up crown Vic's BUT it should be pretty easy to modify, I'd talk to the guy that made them for more info I haven't bought one yet but I plan on trying it out, it looks to me like a great quality piece from the way other people are talking it up

I was under the impression that the HID bulbs were only 35 watts, unlike the sealed lights which range from 40 to 55 watts. I could be (and probably am) wrong. The bulbs that come in that kit are 55 watt h3's. shouldnt be an issue since i run 50 watt sealed beam on the stock wire harness. What happened here?

REAL HID will FRY your stock wiring. If your new stuff is rated for less than your sealed beams, you'll be fine. Doesnt hurt to wire relays to take the load out of your headlight switch though, to save your switch.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Any one know what our stock headlights were rated for??? I wonder how they compare to the fancy new sealed beams that most of us run now... I have GE "cool blue"s...Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements
