Yes my front door handle will pull the rods out of the hole if it freezes, they are a little hard to pull up anyway. They do it on both front doors. The last time they pulled off I just pulled the door panel and put them back in the hole and replaced the clip. I need to pull the whole thing apart and fix it right. If it is raining and going to freeze I don't shut the door all the way.

Clip? where do I get this Clip?

I have had the door panel off my '90 so many times, I could do it blindfolded, I just keep sticking the rod back in the hole.....never saw any clip, even felt around the bottom of the door to see if I could locate it....I mean it HAD to be inside the door if it fell off didn't it? But no dice.

This last time, when I replaced the plastic bushing on the striker, I looked a little more in depth at it. It looks to me like the rod flexes some when the door handle is pulled...shouldn't that thing be pretty stiff?

Maybe the cold has something to do with that?

same clip as the clip for the door lock actuator rod. Same exact clip.
It should be stiff. Not sure if it would affect it that it was cold or not. If it flexes, I'd get another one.

The rod goes into the hole on that plastic clip, but theres a little tab (part of that same plastic piece) that you have to push up out of the way to get the rod in. Once the rod is in, you release the tab and it pops down over the rod to keep it from backing out. If it keeps popping out, I'd say that tiny piece broke off the clip. It looks pretty fragile to me. It's not just the bend at the then of the rod that keeps it in there. So... Zip-tie time?
