    Chrome Pieces Removal

I want to get all nice trim from the junkyard. Now how would I go about removing these pieces?

The chrome pieces on the roof (half vinyl top).

The chrome pices on the B pillars.

The chrome pieces on the wheel wells.

    The chrome pieces around windshield.

The chrome pices on the doors.

The chrome pieces on the rear fenders.

I think that's all of them.

Also I want to get a passenger side power mirror, be cause mine is broken. Not the glass itself but where it is screwed in at the door.

And the little strip thing that's on the bottom of the trumnk lid.

You'll want a window trim removal tool to remove window trim without a huge likelihood of breaking the glass. I found a Lisle one that looks like deformed pliers for a decent price at a local chain called AutoValue. Other types I've seen have a raised handle and a 90-degree flat pick at each end.

Thankfully, a #2 Phillips is all you need for most body trim. (chrome belt molding on doors has screws accessible from inside - on the rear doors, at least, you have to remove the door panel to get to the screw)

do you have a linky to the window trim removal tool?

I have no problem taking off the door panel. Hell they've been off a million times.

the stuff across the roof requires removal of the headliner. I wouldn't mess with that since I think it also holds the front of the vinyl roof on.

The roof I believe is all attached from the inside. The fender trim is just philips screws (an offset ratchet screwdriver is really helpful here. The rocker has clips along that slide and snap into the trim (check for Phillips screws where the trim meets the fender wells), but there are also 2 nuts inside the (one towards front and one rear) of the door behind rocker trim. The trunk lid is a ton (10 or so) of those very came clips in the trim held on by nuts on the opposite side. The windshield trim I tried getting off but just gave up. Anyone you know that replaces windshields would probably know or help you out. My windshield was replaced a few years ago and the guy got it off without damaging it. The trim is all anodized aluminum so if you flex or bend it to much you'll get tons of stress cracks in the coating.

Here's the type I bought. It's available under the Lisle brand and from Summit Racing under the Performance Tool brand, and probably others. If I know what's good for me, I'll manage to locate the thing before I make up my mind to try fixing that rusty windshield header .....

Here's one other type, available from sources including The Eastwood Company and Northern Tool:

And here's one I've not seen before that looks pretty nifty that came up in a Google search:

Finally, here's the type I've actually seen in action, available here and here

Ok, so I'll grab a set from the yard and keep it safe until I go to use it.

Ok. I'll be sure not to bend it. And I do have a ratcheting screwdriver, so I should be good. Thanks Mang.

Thanks, I'll see if the local part place has this or some kind of trim removing tool.

I forgot one piece of trim. The trim on the back of the hood.

That's all Phillips also. There's about 6 or so across underneath the hood and 2 on each of the small fender pieces. Just use the offset there to and you'll be fine. That offset is becoming one of my favorite tools for trim besides the nylon door panel fastener popper.

I hate those fastners too. Pain in the ass.

Yea, you have to lean over the engine for a bit and make sure to don't drop the ratchet on the glass.

I went to the junkyard today and got the 'Crown' Trim off of the roof. Turns out the pieces on the roof come off in half. The only thing is there is wrong is that on my car, the nut thing that holds the small piece of trim is broken so is there anyway to replace/reuse it?

No sir, just getting some new trim since the stuff on it now is crappy.

I will put another vinyl top on when I get money. I'll have the car painted as well.
