I got a quote back from sms auto fabrics, $325 for the top nd I'd have to find someone to install the thing so whatever that would cost. If I can find someplace that will install it for less than my left testicle, I'll do it.

I sent them an email requesting a quote and sample a few days ago and I'm guessing my price will be somewhere in that area. Just waiting to here back from them. I'm paranoid about what I'll uncover if/when I remove the old top, it may need repair work as well. I want to take it to the a place for install with the trim off and old top removed, hopefully that'll cut cost. Plus I'm very protective of my trim.

          i am around Omaha area...

i know a place that would be half tank of gas to get to for them to do your top that i know of. there are a couple places i know of you could get it done at for $350-$450. i know that it would be half tank of gas since in July on the way back from SF i filled as i entered eastern Iowa and low fuel light came on as i was pulling in my driveway.

SF is in Pennsylvania. It's our annual meet at scott's house aka LincolnMania. He has it in the summer last year it was held in july.

SF(ScottFest) is located in Pennsylvania. i was only mentioning that because of fuel to get to where i am to get your top done. instead of finding an expensive place, you can spend a full tank of gas to get to the places i know of and back home. i am a half tank of gas away in the Omaha, Nebraska area and i know of 3 places that do vinyl tops for cars. sorry for the confusion.

How hard would it be to install the vinyl top yourself?

you will need to pop out the window trim and clips on back window and sides, remove interior sail panels to access the nuts holding trim on side of the car and remove the headliner to remove the retaining nuts to remove the crown. i ripped my vinyl top off of my sedan CV last summer and there was rust and holes i had to fix. if you rip it off yourself, you can use aircraft stripper from wal-mart to remove residue and such that is on there. here is what mine looked like after i removed it and what it exposed.

here is what it looked like after i fixed the rust, cleaned the crap off of it, sanded and
                      primered roughly.

window trim snaps on... between vinyl and painted surface on side of car and for the crown it has bolt type things you have to remove nuts from inside the car to remove.

I got my samples from SMS Auto Fabrics the other day and the vinyl color was dead on texture and color (matched vinyl color under trim). It's hard to even remember the vinyl being that dark and I've been around that car since I was 3. The cost for a pre-made vinyl top is just under $300 and sounds like a great deal for me. They also sent a cloth sample that was a perfect and I mean perfect match to my seat fabric.

Can you take the vinyl off and make it a slick top. I think they look a lot better with out the vinyl.
