Guess what, everyone? I finally found washing soda! Would you believe it was just in the laundry aisle at my local Kroger?

Now if this sloppy snow stops one of these days, I'll have to set this stuff up in that big washing tub I got and see how it works.

Well, after looking all over the stinking place for the stuff, including Sam's Club and Wally World and Menard's and Home Depot and Lowe's and I think Ace Hardware, I was pretty shocked. :p

yep. This stuff actually said "Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda", not sure if that's different at all, but it's the closest thing I've seen so I bought it.

                      Apparently, very.

Left it going for a few hours this evening. Got plenty of weird buildup on the pipe I'm using for the anode, but can't discern any reduction in rust on the valvecover. Perhaps it's working on the chromium and nickel layers before the ferrous oxide? I'll have to toss one of my factory covers in there in the morning to test this theory.

yea i think mine was the super soda stuff but it took 2 days for 2 shorty headers that werent real bad but still had quit a bit of rust, yea but ull see alot of bubbling and its acually workin bofore u i think it was neat, you will get alot of brown crap buildup ontop of the water, but i had 2 steel pipes going into the bucket, the charger i hooked one negaitve other positive, then u just let it sit

I took out the pipe and substituted a piece of flat steel I'd been messing with, and the process was going a lot faster. I derusted an interior bracing piece just for fun, but I'm thinking I'll need to build an anode array for things to really work well with larger pieces like my valvecovers. The one cover was producing plenty of bubbles during initial testing with the flat steel anode instead of the pipe, but I couldn't find much having happened when I removed it from the soup. Of course, right now it's like minus 3 degrees outside and my tank is frozen over ....... :p
