    Rust Removal using Electrolysis

Several years ago, and I can't recall how it happened, I came into an inexpensive and easy way to clean rust and grease, and, in some cases, paint, from your rusty cast iron and sheet metal parts. Taking advantage of common household cleaning products, items many of us have laying around the garage, kitchen or laundry room, and some science, you can clean parts from a single bolt up to an entire trailer frame through a process known as "electrolysis".
I hope this site can help those of us that need help with rusty parts.

Hm, I have an old shitty nasty iron GM Quadrabog intake that I might be willing to try that on. Its a marine intake, and those things get *super* nasty.

      Quadrabog!

Seriously, though, I must try this method as well. Must first obtain extra plastic bucket and learn where to buy "washing soda" ......

I think I'm going to borrow my neighbors swimming pool, strip my Thunderbird to a bare unibody, and give this a shot.

Hey, if the pool's an in-the-ground model, and you have a big enough power supply and sacrifical anode ...... that might sound tempting to try! I hear getting a car "dipped" is getting difficult these days. Now if just get yourself a whole row of swimming pools, each with different acid baths .........

in my opinion there is no substitute for media blasting.

That's probably true. Of course, an electrolysis station is cheaper and easier to put together than buying and operating a blast cabinet .... I'm really interested to try it once I figure out where to buy washing soda.

BTW, nice sig pics! Any thoughts of changing the window trim from blue to black (not that I'm biased or anything)?

i sandblasted my old jeep in my back yard and recycled the sand using a window screen. i just layed out a tarp and some plywood and started blasting.
                              cool to know though.

as far as the window trim goes i may just strip it and polish it. im playing with a few ideas. there is a few bubbles where the paint isnt sticking to the aluminum.
