Ah, I was thinking of blasting small parts like timing pointer through valvecover size, not whole vehicles. Thought I should probably consider your method an option now that I've got a big yard.

Did you use a pressure blaster or siphon blaster?

yeah I'm stuck on the washing soda part too...it said it was somewhat easy to find.....but its not. Those deep buckets with cheap laundry soap in em should work perfect...I got only one bucket so far though...Next time I get some soap perhaps I'll get the cheap stuff...IF its safe for baby...my great grandma used that stuff so perhaps its OK.. I wish I could use a battery charger to do this...I'm running low on 12 Volt battery's now...not pointing at anybody............jason......lol

I wish I had an old tub or something...I could do entire engines and stuff ...I could get stuff that was once "junk" for free and dip em take them apart and then dippy again...then scrub with a wire brush and repeat until clean....check for cracks and sell to engine builders perhaps make a penny of of em

And I agree....sweet pics....and I dunno black trim could look pretty cool.....I'd get extra trim and try it out

That's kind of a neat idea. One thread, sure, but a little subforum could be really useful.

Washing soda isn't hard to find...I think I got mine at the grocery store. Heck, Michael, if'n you want, I'll bring my box of it and give you some next time I see you. It doesn't take much, and the box I've got is more than I'll ever need.

Hey, thanks for mentioning Gabe's trip, I'd practically forgotten about that. He'd said somewhere around the 15th or 20th or something, right?

Let's see ... I've got buckets ..... a battery charger ....... and some steel that could be used for a sacrifical anode .... I guess I should be about set except for the soda.

Probably whatever catches my fancy. Maybe a set of factory '87 valve covers that I started glassbeading but stopped because I had more important things to do with the borrowed glassbead cabinet. I also have an extra alternator bracket with lots of rust that should be a fun test piece.

Let us know how it works out. Sometime in the spring I'll have a GM iron 4bbl intake manifold to test with, but right now its too damn cold to go remove the thing. I don't want to fool with the good one I have since its not really rusty. The one on the engine currently is absolutely worthless to me, so if it goes bad I won't be upset. Its got such heavy rust scale inside that I actually fear it blowing through the coolant passages.

It works good with intake manifolds...takes off rust, paint, and to a certain degree, grease as well. Try it! You'll like it! Valve covers also usually come out quite nicely.
