    Full top?

I have been looking at the vic for the last few days and have been sorta struck on the idea of a full top, as whether or not of the classic panther "Padded" look as with most 1/2 tops or the 1960-70's vinyl tops that were flatter and more or less roof then top....would like any sites that sells tops, etc if possible...

Also, as I haven't decided on a paint scheme, so don't know as what color top I will get....But it will lay between black or white.

    Thanks all-

    Fellar

Personally... I wouldn't go with a full top. The cars on wires with all the extra chrome and bells and whistles, they can pull it off.

Cars like ours... not really lol.

An a P72? No, not a chance. Stick with the slicktop, goes much better with the car.

But, this is just my opinion, do what you want with yer car.

I say if it looks good to you, then go for it. After all, your the one who has to look at and drive the car everyday, not anyone else.

That being said, it will not be a cheap endeavor, and I seriously doubt that your gonna find any place that will have a ready made Full Vinyl Top for your car. They will have to eather have the car itself, or Pics and Exact Measurements of the roof.

If you have the $$$ to pull it off, I think it would look good.

This is a reputable site that sells Vinyl Tops, you could try contacting them. http://www.keeautotop.com/

join the darkside just kidin', i'm a purist so i wouldn't recomend you a full vinyl although i'm a full top lover and mine has it, i think its more vintage looking than the newer vics, but its your decision and if you ever decide on a full vinyl smsautofabrics.com sells a premade full vinyl with the original patterns and colors i think it could be easily adapted. They even have original fabrics and door panels. hope this helps you a bit on your decision. Good luck

My coach roof is padded, and has been going for 20+ years now and still hasn't cracked at all, but this car was garaged for most of it's life. With proper maintenance it should be able to last at least another 5-10 years out in the sun, before cracking and needing replaced.

The standard Vinyl Roof might fair slightly better, but I doubt it would be enough to matter, its really all in the maintenance of the Vinyl.

I have a 1986 Sales Broshure that shows the top of the line model with an optional full vinyl top. It looked pretty good in the picture. There was still a stainless piece (I think with coach lamps) on the B-pillar, but it stopped at the top of the doors, and didn't go across the full top. I'll have to check the broshure again, and can scan in the picture. Won't be for a couple weeks though. I'm in Maryland, and the broshure is in Ontario.

I saw a mint '86-'87 CV Loaded with a full vinyl top. It was a CV with the B-pillar lights, one of only two I've seen. And it was brown too, no crown. Haven't seen a facelifted box with a full vinyl top.

All 1979 Ford/Merc Panthers with vinyl tops got full vinyl tops if I am not mistaken. The whole 1/2 vinyl top thing didn't appear until 1980 with the coming of the "Crown Victoria." Standard LTD's were still either slicktop or full vinyl. In 1983 when every car was now a Crown Victoria, the slicktop was standard (not many made that way), the 1/2 vinyl was next up, and the full vinyl was top of the line. I think.

Pleeze don't put a vinyl top on your slicktop...
