I went to the junkyard to get some nice looking rubber strips once. I found a nice set off a crown vic. The damn holes in the bumper didn't match mine. So it's useless. :nonono:

If it's like with my '87 bumperstrips on the '84 bumper I bought, they CAN be persuaded to work. Just wish I remembered just how I did it!

I've got the nasty, newer ones with the rubber that goes all the way across. they're especially nasty because the front has the license plate frame in the middle. [I don't like the way it looks.]
of course, some bitch backed into mine and cracked the plastic brackets that snap into the chrome. now I've got a bunch of holes all in the front and a big blank spot in the black trim.
I want my bumpers back off the 89, the ones with just the two bump guards, but I didn't think to keep them at the time. sigh.
Yea, CV's have a trim piece for cars without a plate box, but GMQ's just have the holes there regardless, because their trim doesn't run all the way across.

Interesting. So all the '79 bumpers have the notch in the nose for the front license plate? Guess that works fine if you're in Illinois or Alaska where a front plate is required, but in Indiana or Michigan I've got no use for it.
From what I've seen all 79's have the Front Plate Indent. The 80-81 Smooth Model Bumper which does not,was mainly only used on the 1980 models, and was discontinued midway through 81.So some 81's have them and some don't,it's hit and miss.A hard bumper to find.
I just want to get my bumper rechromed. It's peeling and makes me sad.

A re-chrome around here usually runs around $300-500 for a Bumper the Size of ours.I can't justify spending that much, until I find a 80-81 slotted bumper.
I'm just really sentimental about the car and always try to keep the parts original, though that usually makes things more difficult and expensive. I am surprised that mine hasn't rusted at all yet. I'll probably not get it re-chromed for 10+ years.
