What Bumpers Do You Guys/Gals Have?

I noticed that some of you guys/gals have mostly chrome bumpers except for a couple bumper guards towards the center of the bumper. My ma's CV still has the stock bumpers (the bumpers with the rubber strip that wraps all around the bumpers) and they have seen better days. What years and model bumpers should I look for? The first major task I want to do to the CV is get new paintjob. It would be a waste to have nasty bumpers adorning fresh paint.

I've just got the standard ones with the two large bump guards on 'em.

They don't look bad, but I'd still wish to find the '79 style front for it. That's the ones with the inserts in them. HARD to find, especially in decent shape, but they're sweet.

I agree, go for one of those, if possible.

I wish I knew more about what bumpers came with the full nerf strips. I got the replacement for my '87 off an '84 Grand Marquis, though the strips on that bumper weren't in great shape and I transferred my old ones over. Weird thing was that a) the replacement bumper core was steel as opposed to my original aluminum, and b) the mounting holes for the strips were in different places, making mounting the newer strips on the older bumper a little bit complicated.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. The 79 bumpers look good. I like the front bumper on 1987cp's 79 wagon. It looks like it has a place for the front license plate, which we need in NJ.

Yeah, it does. I'd consider swapping for one without that feature - if someone wanted to go through the hassle of restoring the peeling chrome.

I think bumper pads/strips were optional most years... Ive never seen any reason to what cars have them.
I like the bare chrome rather than the strips, but they sure save you on little bumper corner scrapes

That's one of the biggest reasons I like 'em. Well, that, and I kind of like the look. I'd be very paranoid if the '79's bumpers were nice enough to worry about scratches.
