I'm going to change the fluid and gasket in the rear within a day or so. I was thinking about painting it and was wondering what any of you have used or recommend for this. I'd like something in Black, either semi or hi-gloss. I was trying to find VHT Caliper paint, which I used on drums before (works very well) but can't locate any around here. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I'll probably just get the reg engine paint then, that's what I was thinking you'd say. Will I be alright if I just degrease and wire brush for the prep? It's pretty much just solid flaky rust now.sigpic

Get an aluminum one off a newer car. Thats what I did. If you're patient, you could polish it. The aluminum won't be all nasty and pitted like the stock one. I just painted mine with red engine enamel then misted it with silver fleck.
Don't drip any gear oil on the freshly painted masterpiece. I got a small spot on mine.**2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302: 5.0/ 6 spd/ 3.73s, 20K Cruiser

I used the 500 degree Ford Blue paint out of the rattle can as well. Mine was an aluminum cover.
For prep work to paint something the key is NO GREASE OR OIL, PERIOD! Wire brush, no. Wire brush it then take a can of carb cleaner and rinse it off. Use that and a rag if anything is still on but do a final rinse with the carb cleaner (it evaporates fast). Then have at it. After my paint was pretty dry but still soft, I buffed it up to give it a slightly better finish, but I still didn't spend more than 10 minutes on it.

I left mine in the natural finish.

I think what he was getting at was that the bare cast aluminum looked nice as it was. And it does. I like the look of mine, minus the greasy fingerprints all over it. lol

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'm going to keep my stock one for now but I'll keep an eye out for the aluminum ones in the future. Blaze, I like the way you did your cover, I was looking at the same color paint but figured I'd stay darker. Could i use the the sandblaster on it or is there a chance it will warp the cover? Worst case, I'll just degrease, brush, and spray. It's better than nothing right?sigpic

jsut make sure there is enough metal there to blast it. Not seen it with Ford covers, but the cover on my Chevy rusted through and started leaking without ever being touched.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I'll give it a good look before I even think of blasting it. It seems very solid though except for a tiny dent/curl at the bottom from years ago.sigpic
