So say I find a good trunklid in the yard - but there are no keys to pop it open with. What would be my best route for breaking and entering without trashing the new lid?

Don't try and drill out that lock cylinder, trust me,I've tried and it is much, much, more trouble than it's worth, and you will most likely warp the sheet metal around the lock.Just bring a 12V Battery with you to supply power to the switch,or if you have a sawzall you could cut your way into the trunk from behind the rear seat and then pop the lock from inside. In most yards I've been to,most of the trunklids are allready opened, which was the case when I got mine.
