As I said... don't do it to a future show car, or something you want to still drive a decade or three from now. But it works. I had an elcamino that I did the metal tape trick to back in 98, that still runs around. It held up until well after 9/11, which is longer than I expected the car to last. (BTW, the buyer was made aware of what I did to it, before they bought it.) As a friend of mine says... "It looks GOOD from far, but FAR from good"

Thanks again for good advice and the rest of you GMNers too. No, this isn't a show car/truck, but I would like to have this truck last a little bit until I can get a new career going. Yeah, I didn't think about the fire thing when welding. My father said he has lead cloth or something like that; he thinks it will work better than the foam and not catch on fire when we come back at this truck in a year or two. Too bad it wasn't the door, this would've been so much easier.

Here are some pics of the progress on the Ranger. I got before and after pics. I already primered the truck, but the roll of film in the camera binded on me and I couldn't take pics of that. All I got are the bondo pics. My dad had some lead wool that we used to fill in the post, then we bondo'd over it. I will spray the red paint over the primer tomorrow after it has dried completely. Enjoy the temporary fix.

The Malibu had a lot of surface rust and some pitted areas on it. I spent the better part of the summer of 1999 repairing it while using it everyday. The Ranger is the first to have holes in the body that needed to be filled. It could have been smoother, but I bought the wrong primer and I ran out of time with the truck. Zwack88 was a big help in identifying the different kinds of primer so next time will hopefully have better results. Considering how my Malibu turned out, perhaps this truck will end up in pretty good shape as well.

Raising the Dead (Thread)

Hey guys/gals. I found another Ford Ranger to replace my dying S-10. It's like the old Ranger I had, except that this one has a 4.0L V6 and an AOD. Same color on the outside, but red on the inside as well (my old Ranger had a gray interior). It also has electric windows and locks. I would prefer manual versions, but beggars can't be choosey. I would also rather have a 5-speed, but beggars..... The plan is to drive the truck for a couple years in its present form. When I get around to swapping out the lopo in my mother's CV, I'll build it up and stick it in the Ranger with a 5-speed. I will get pics when I am able to. I have yet to get batteries for my camera. I should buy a digital camera; meh whatever.

I have yet to bring the truck home. I'm hoping to get home from work at a decent time today and grab the truck while the dealership is still open. I hadn't realized that this thread was in the tech section and not OTB. I'll make another thread when the camera is working.

One of the car/truck shows on Spike did something similar stuffing a Marauder motor into a Mazda B2000 (Ranger's corporate cousin). Cool trucks.

Yeah, I think I saw those pics on youtube or sumtin like that. It would be cool to get a Coyote engine in there, but I will settle for an older 5.0L with some aftermarket bolt-ons. With a 5-speed and not much weight, it should make a fun little commuter. But that's in the future. For now, I may keep the S-10 around a little longer and have my mom drive the Ranger when I need to complete the work on the CV. I may be able to completely rebuild the front end without having to rent a car while doing so. With any luck I might get the rebuilt rear in there as well.

Okay, I got a pic of the truck. Quickly snapped this when I got to work this morning.



I am going to keep this truck stock for the time being. I'll see if I have room for the lopo when the time comes; to serve as a posssible back up if the 4.0L should fail. Otherwise, I will swap an LS1 into Putter Project and make that a more reliable backup vehicle.

Don't underestimate the 4.0 that's in there. I've been in a couple Rangers with a 5 speed, and 3.73 gears and that were pretty zippy. (this from the guy who HATES most V6 engines.) Then again my Gradnpa had a 94 with the 4.0 and 2.73's or something similar and it felt slower than his old 2.0 ranger from the early 80's.

This 4.0L is way better than the 2.8L V6 in the S-10, which was torquier than the 3.0L V6 in my old Ranger. I might upgrade the exhaust with headers and a full single 3" system. I got resonated tips from way back that I'd like to get out of the bedroom. I will probably keep the A4LD tranny for the time being. Just in case my mom's CV acts up; she'll have something to drive. Oh, and this Ranger is a '91. So this is how it went; '92 Ford Ranger>>'92 S-10>>'91 Ford Ranger. I guess I am stuck in the early '90s. LOL Though, they was good timez
