Home-Made Wide White Walls

I am seriously thinking of painting wide whites on my ma's CV winter tires for a summer project. I was thinking of going old skool and painting them on there with a brush and Rustoleum. I can also get some flexible body tape (for painting flames and such) and making a donut shaped stensil for spray paint. Has anybody here tried this?

I was thinking of turning the whitewalls inward and painting the tire letters white on the Vic, woulda looked good with the steelies all cleaned up. I thought about doing that to the Civic, but it would look goofy in anything except just black.

Anywho, let us know how it turns out, cuz I may try it one day.

Theres whitewall paint available, beware tho, it's NOT cheap. I've seen some on ebay, it's like 40 bucks for 16oz or somethin. It's made for tires tho, no cracking and turning ugly like regular paint.

I wouldn't give a shit...helluva lot cheaper than 2-$300 per tire, for wide whites.

Yeah, I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on winter tires, especially since the turbines are pretty much shot. I figure for less than thirty dollars I can have a modern look during the spring, summer, and fall, and an old skool look for the winter.

Yeah, I think I saw that in Ol' Skool Rodz. The paint has to be imported from Denmark or some place like that. Nah, I'll just get some Rustoleum and brush or spray it on for a few bucks.

Here is a cheap alternative you might try.

I know some paint shops will mix up small batches of paint pretty cheaply. Get some in a flat white, with a flex additive (the stuff they add to keep the paint on plastic bumpers from cracking) and put it in a spray can, or else get a gravity fed sprayer, or one of those spray cans you can put anything in, and charge with compressed air, or an airbrush, or????

As a side note, you would be surprised how good a 96 cent can of wal-mart satin black spray paint will make a set of clapped out tires look... for a while. Just make sure they are clean and grease/armor-all free before spraying.

I know of a guy who does detail work for some local used car dealers, and he has been known to paint quite a few tires in his day.

I also saw a show once, where a guy had an OLD tire lathe. You could use it to shave all the markings off the sidewall to make a completely smooth look, or else make room for painted on wide whites. As I recall you just jacked the car up, clamped the thing onto the tire, and plugged it in, an electric motor spun the tire. Unfortunately it has been so long ago, that I really don't remember much else.

Yea that's one of 'em. I also saw some on ebay...was in the states I beleive.
