    Painting My Tail Lights

I wanna paint my 03 Vic tail lights.. What kind of paint and sandpaper should I use.. And is it legal in California..

I wanna leave the 3 indented stripes for the light to come through.

i think underbody kits and that crap are legal so smoking/covering painting taillights might be too. they make spray tint stuff

Yea I doubt there's really anything illegal about painting parts of your tails. I know they have REALLY strict emissions laws, but that's as far as my knowlege goes.

One other guy on here painted the slots on his, looked sweet. Reminded me of mid 90's Mustang tails.

They haven't outlawed cars entirely in California yet?

Yeah man. Just rough it up with like 300 or so grit. 180 would be the roughest I would go but I wetsanded mine with 300 something grit and primed and painted them. They have held up fine.

I just used Kryon's paint. Just the regular, I have never used that plastic paint they have but you could use that. Mask it off, prime, the shoot the color. Then unmask everything and clear the whole light except the bottom strip that was already black.

I used gloss black. You technically don't need to but it will hold up alot better.

Nope it wont hurt the unpainted part at all as long as you clean it as well as you cleaned the painted areas before you painted. Like I have said when I did mine that is what I did and I had no problems.

It should be dry to the touch within 15 minutes. The key is to do several light coats of paint and not one thick coat. I think when I did mine I did it one day after school, got it prepped at 4:00 and was pretty much done by 9:00 ready to be put back on. They will need awhile to cure so try to be careful with them for a couple of days till they totally harden.
