    Weather Stripping

Okay, I notice my weather stripping is decent on the front doors and very good on the rear doors. With the front doors, both of them, air likes to leak in through the top towards the back. I was thinking about something like this froum JCwhitney, and put it on the actual door. Lots of late model cars have weather stripping on both the doors and the car, why not do this on mine?

I was thinking of Style 4, it says it is 5/8" wide, the spot it will be sticking to is about 3/4" so it will work out fine. I just need to know how much I would need for ALL doors. Can someone please tell me how many feet I should buy?

You might have to re-adjust your striker pin as that might make the door a little more difficult to shut.

Okay, what is the best way to adjust it. I adjusted my rear passenger door one once and I got it to close if you barely push the door, I couldn't do that do any of the other doors. I just got lucky on the rear door

Wash, and lube the latches and just slowly eye them and adjust in small increments. My town cars doors could shut with a stiff breeze.

Wash with what, rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip?, then lube with WD-40? How much of that weather stripping do you think I need for all 4 doors?

You don't even have to go to that extreme. Just go to your local Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, and get some self stick weatherstripping. It comes in 1/4" thick, 1/2" thick, etc. on a roll. All you are going to need is a little thickness to make a seal. You could probably do your car for $10. I can't remember offhand how much the stuff is, but I thought it was pretty inexpensive.
As for how much you need, grab your tape measure, and measure around the door. Add 10% for insurance, and you'll know how much to buy. Or, just grab a couple of rolls for starters. If you run out, go back and get some more.

Are you talking about foam window weather stripping, or is it actually rubber, and rounded off on the edges? I don't want it to look like crap.

Go to a junk yard, and look for some in a grandmas car... usually they are in a garage and in good shape... also check Town Cars... they are usually in better condition... Also... You could go to Advance Auto Parts... we carry rubber original equipment style universal rubber door seals... it is in the glue and sealer section... (At least in our store) Just measure, cut, and peel and stick.... Tom

I got a complete spare set off a car that was garaged. The biggest problem is that top rear corner on the front doors. It's smaller than 90 degrees so you will likely kink anything you install there and it won't seal good.

The driver's door one usually rips because the hinge pins wear out, and the weather stripping starts dragging on the trim around the door because the door is hanging a bit low at the top. Mine was totally shredded, hinge was so bad that the top of the door was digging in to the aluminum trim around the door.

On my old Vic the weatherstripping on all the doors would leak every now and then. All I did was get some of that foam with one adhesive side, and trim it to fit. Just stuck it on the doors themselves. Doing that to the Deuce soon too, one of the door is starting to be stupid aswell.

Might wanna look around at some hardware stores for it, works pretty good.

Has anyone ever tried making all-new weatherstripping with the push-on/clip-on stuff from JCWhitney? Styles 8 and 9 from the following image look similar in cross-section to our stock stuff: Picture

That's one issue I haven't worked out in my head. Trying to splice the weatherstripping at an angle might be possible, but seems likely to result in leaks. I don't suppose new replacement stuff could be formed into that corner with a heat gun?

Then there's the issue of tailgate weatherstrip for us with wagons ....
