Hatch Door lock

Dear Panthers,
Intermittenly my 89 CP's tailgate lock doesn't unlatch when I hit the unlock button and/or my new remote (It had this problem before the remote was installed).

Oddly, if I roll down the tailgate window and/or open the tailgate in tailgate party mode instead of swing mode and close everything up again, the tailgate does unlock in swing out mode.

I'm not interested in tailgate party mode becuase I've got 4, 5 or 6 dogs to let out the back and when I grab that latch and it doesn't release it is a oain in the ass.

What's going on here. How can I fix it?

Id say the lock motor is going bad - they sieze up and work less and less, usually worse in cold weather. Opening and closing it probably jostles it enough to let it unlock again.

you can get them from the dealer but they are around 100 bucks......ebay ones are ok and about 20 ea

I see "actuators". Is that what I want?

yep - they have different size rods so it will have to be matched to the one in your hatch.
