After staring at my ma's CV for a little bit today I have come to the conclusion that I may reattach the chrome crown/strip (I might make some sort of rubber gasket to go underneath to simulate the vinyl) after the car gets painted. I plan on leaving the vinyl off of the car and retaining the crown/strip (it kinda grew on me). That's assuming that it can be reattached.

i did it a,d the damn glue was the biggest PITA to remove. eventually it all got done. you do have to do some bodywork to cover up the unfinished weld on the pillars:

after removing, the crap i had to scrape off:

after removing the crap, revealing the unfinished weld:

no, my car was never red, thats factory primer

you need to sand it down to bare metal before filling:

just its very important to take all the sealer shit out of the splice near the to pof the roof, jus dont put the filler over it! and if your filling holes, dont slap filler in emplug em from inside first or do what i did, used a brazing rod and fileed them in carfully.

Would a torch on a low setting work for taking out that sealer?

Tom did. that was his '85 GM with 275/60 road huggers in the back. eventually he put an '88-91 nose on it.

he sold it i believe when he joined the air force a few years ago and had to move down to FL. in FL is where he bought the 2nd GMGT that he has today

You'll most likely have to call or go to a shop to get an estimate. Others can tell you what they've paid, but different shops will charge different prices, obviously.
