Started some bodywork on the Blue Bomber

It's going to be painted...black. Not sure if I'm going to spraybomb it gloss black, pay a friend to do it, or have it professionally done.

Anyway, there's a good amount of rust to be taken care of. The undercarriage is in surprisingly good condition.



There was massive wheelwell rust, but I took care of that.


Still have to do some sanding.


This is what's next, it's going to be a pain in the ass!

I have a problem of not being able to keep cars for more than 6 months, anyway.

Got a quote of $509 to paint the Marq BLACK if I do all the bodywork myself. Going for it.

You know that a gallon of black primer will run ya about $35-$50. Have your buddy spray it for ya. Better yet, see if you can borrow his equipment and do it yourself. Or, rent the equipment from a local tool place. Shouldn't be more than $50 for an afternoon. You can easily finish painting it in that amount of time. (just have eveything masked off before you go rent)
That rust will definately be back in a year (or less). Or two at the most. Bondo is not a bad thing if used for what it is designed for. The way you are using it, it won't last very long. But, it will look alot better for the time being, especially if you had'nt done anything to it.
And if you are not going to keep the car that long, I wouldn't spend $500 on a paint job.

come to think of it, just not too long ago I was at the parts house, and some guy had taken flat black paint, and rollered it onto his car with a paint roller. It actually didn't turn out too bad. Personally, I woulda gone with the spraybomb, myself. Best bang for the buck. Gives a good result, and you don't have to mess with equipment.
Who knows, I might try the paint roller idea on the new beast when I get to it next summer.

Ya I am with Enigma, unless you cut that rust out and weld in some new metal don't bother with a $500 paint job. Rattle can it for $30 and just do it that way.

Remember,a paintjob,especially a gloss black paintjob,is only gonna look as good as what it's laid down on.If you did'nt do the bodywork on those wheelwell's good enough,you will be able to see it reflected though the GB paint fairly easily.Not to mention if you did'nt get the correct ratio of catalyst to hardner when you mixed the bondo,after it's painted the bondo can eather swell or shrink,cracking the paint off,and wasting all the $$$ you just put into the paintjob.

Don't get me wrong Bondo is not a bad thing when it is used for it's actual purpose,which is smoothing out the body.Just spraybomb it unless you wanna get into the serious ammount of bodywork a professional Gloss Black paintjob needs.

Jeeze why so expencive for paint? Over here I could paint Vicky for about 200 bucks including body work. If I do it myself
