What are you going to say when it's obvious that your motor is stock?
Like was said, build the thing first, then worry about the cosmetics. Plus it would suck to get a certain size hood, then have to get another one when the engine is finished and it's a little taller than you had planned.

ive got a 2.5" cowl. it clears my 351 with a air gap intake, 1/2" nitrous plate, Holley 4150 carb, 1" air cleaner spacer and a 14" moroso air cleaner with a 2 or 3" element. i still have some room under it but not sure how much. would have to have a pretty tall set up for a 2.5" not to work.

        Aye.
But he was asking what size, and IMHO how are you going to know what size if you don't have a need for it anyway?
I guess then "what size?" is about aesthetics at that point.
So go for whatever looks best to you.
I guess I'm confused because in my mind, putting a cowl hood on a car that doesn't need the extra clearance just doesn't make sense. Like tubbing/flaring the fenders and then running skinny tires/wheels.
Changing the look of the car not from necessity, but to make people think you have something bigger under the hood is kind of rice-y.
But hey everyone has their own opinons.....

The shorter the scoop the better, it will still look killer and provide cool air.
