    Grill Removal on 92' M75

How do you remove the front grille on the 92 GM...I wanna black it out or paint it body color just to get rid of that stock look...Make it a little unique

It is actually kind of a PITA. You will have to remove the headlights and corners. Then there are small nuts that are behind the chrome strip that runs across the entire front of the car right above the grille. Remove all of the nuts that hold the strip on. The strip will stay attached to the grille top center where the flying-m is. Then there are four bolts that hold the grille in. The grille is actually alot bigger(deeper)than it seems. Remeve these bolts, and there is also a lower lip on the grille that kind of hooks under the bumber cover...you'll see what I mean when you get there. Then you can remove the chrome strip from the grille, there is a small nut on the back of the grille.
Replacement is the reverse of removal.
Let me know how it goes, if you need help I can take pics.
I customized my grille...haven't deen anyone with the same idea.
    good luck

Tom I want to but I also don't want a hundred people having the same grille as me. I know that sounds ghey but it's true. Unless I can have it unofficially known as the "mercenvy" grille or something. I was actually thinking of making a bunch then selling them. Looks real nice, noticeable yet subtle. Not anything earth-shattering either, just think cutom 49-51 Merc grilles...lol
If the guy has trouble I'll take a pic of it.

Post the damn pic, and it shal forever be called the Envy Grill!

Think about it man, you just customized the OUTSIDE of your car....yet you don't want people to see it? Becuase they might like it and all wanna be just like you....

If you are really worried about it, make up a name (like EnvyGrill) and post a pic of it with several pics of your car. Saying it's yours will leave an impression, but showing that it's yours will leave a lasting impression.

Look, I'm not trying to be all egotistical about it...lol...
It's just that the reason things are unique is because they are unique to certain people...
I'm sure you will all see my grille in due time.
I just mentioned that I have had to change my grille before and why.
If the original poster needs pics to remove his grille, then you will see it, but I'm not ready yet to just post it for its own sake.

Okay, okay...pics of the removal process....

You will have to pop the hood...and remove the plastic covers above the headlights on each side. Then you will have to remove the whole top black plastic cover from the vehicle. This is held in place by those black plastic button-type push in connectors, just give it a sharp tug and they should all come out and you should be able to remove the cover. Be careful at the ends where the headlight covers are, the plastic is very thin there and you could break it.
1st pic is with the cover on, the 2nd is with the cover removed.
Next, remove the headlights. I did not take any pics of the headlight removal, because the manuals show how to remove those pretty well. Remove the spring clips, there are four per side, then revove the bulbs and remove the headlight capsules. Plus I admit I didn't feel like removing the headlights, they're kind of a PITA and I have alot of shit to do today at work so I got there early and took a couple of pics. But if you are having a wicked hard time removing the headlights then if I have to I will take a pic of that...but it will have to wait...lol.
With the headlights removed it's time to remove the corners. Yes, you have to remove the corners to remove the grille.
The 3rd pic is the nut that you must remove from the inside, it is more towards the front of the corner light, I think it's 11mm or something. The pic is with the headlights still in the car. Remove this nut(don't drop it). Then switch over to the outside of the car...on the back upper part of the corner there is a phillips-head screw(4th pic). Remove that and wiggle the corner out, and drop the corner down...it is not necessary to remove the bulbs but this is a good time to clean the lenses up while they're out...(5th pic)
Then in the 6th pic it was hard to get a good shot of it lying on the ground, but there is a screw on each side, if you get down on the ground and look up, under the top part of the opening for the corner you must remove these 2 screws, one on each side. I used a stubby screwdriver...it was actually kind of a PITA but that's what you have to do...
7th pic is a looking forward shot to show you where the nuts are to remove the chrome strip from the car. With those wierd phillips you removed from the sides, the only thing holding the strip on are these 6 or 8 nuts. You will need a fairly long extension, and I can't remember what size they are, but remove them and remove the entire chrome strip from the vehicle. The little "flying M" badge will come off with the strip. You can remove it if you want, but unfortunately the grill is recessed for this circlular badge and looks crappier without it IMHO. I have plans to rectify that, but that is far, far in the future.
Anyways with the headlights, corners and chrome strip removed you're almost there.
There are four bolts that hold the grille in, two on each side(8th pic). Again you will need a long extension to reach them, 5/16" I believe(may be wrong). Once you remove these, you can then tilt the top of the grille twords the front of the vehicle to unhook it from the front bumper. There is a lip on the very bottom of the grille which is plainly visible in this pic that hooks under the bumper cover. This will take some finesse. Don't just rip it out, you may flake off some paint or something.
I actually took a couple other pics but they didn't download for some reason...got to get back to work so that's all I can do for now. See what you can do and get back to me.

p.s. When bolting the corners back in, go easy on those nuts...they are just set into plastic so don't go crazy tightening the shit out of them or they will strip and you'll have a bitch of a time getting them out ever again. Just snug them up and you'll be fine and don't forget the black rubber "weatherstripping" when putting back the chrome strip. Good luck.

Well, you're welcome. Anything else you may need pics of I can do also but not if it's a huge PITA. In other words I'm not going to pull my tranny just to show you, but I will be pulling mine soon and will take pics and post them later.
What are your thoughts on the grille? Just wondering what your idea is?
My advice: Go to a junkyard and get a grille from there in case you mess it up. Plus you can work on it while you still have the old one in. I'm not sure what your plans are but it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to find one that wasn't broken or cracked someplace. My idea required alot of cutting, masking and painting. But I am happy with the results...a subtle change. I can't stand things that are way over the top when it comes to customizing the outside of the vehicle but that seems to be the norm nowadays....huge freaking wheels, winshield banners, giant tailpipes, tribal flames, stupid graphics, etc.
I like something that you don't even notice right away but then you notice and say, "hey that's pretty neat".
                      Sorry, just my preference.
But good luck with your grille, keep us posted and if you need any more advice I would be more than happy to help.
