You da man pete. You've inspired me to do some led upgrades on my cars. I listen to your tech on leds like gospel. You need to do a sticky write up on what different leds are and what to do to make them work with our vehicles. Once againChris - A 20th Century Man \m/ ^.^ \m/

Hm, flexi LED strips by the foot eh? Sounds like exactly what I want for around the inside of my trunk. I'm thinking a piece between the taillamp and fenderwell under the body lip, and a section across above the package shelf. I figure that should provide some half decent trunk lighting and be nicely protected at the same time. Must figure out exactly how to rig that to come on with the opening of the trunk lid, might have to pick up a tilt switch or something.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

If it were only that simple ida done it already
The tilt switch is part of the bulb socket housing itself, so you'd have to modify the housing somehow to get power to a wire.
I wonder if they sell standalone mercury switches...
Those strips would probably work great - they look like they'd be light enough to attach with velcro tape.
If i keep my fingers crossed I might have a chance to get paid to install some of those :banana:Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

So it has one of those mercury switches? Lol, that'd explain why I never found a regular one anywhere in the trunk. But okay, so it's a tilt switch, so what? Does the bulb have a positive wire - yes, does it have a ground wire - dunno (never played with mine), two possibilities:
a) it does - then what is stopping you from splicing a relay somewhere in it? This way the currnet will go through the bulb first, then through the relay, then go to the ground, just like the high-beams of the headlights (think of the indicator light on the dash). I bet you can even get rid of the bulb and just short it's connectors, there's not gonna be too much current flowing through there anyhow as long as you have a load somewhere after the switch.
b) no ground wire, the damn bulb uses the trunk lid's metal surface as a ground - still no big deal, just take the thing off and run a ground wire from it, then insulate the whole thing assembly nicely so it doesn't touch the bare metal again.
I mean come on Pete, if I was able to splice my ignition and fab me a relay harness that gives me 4 low and 4 high beams, you should have no problems with a simple mercury swithc, especially considering what you've done to the rest of the car

Hey now, Im not saying it would be difficult, just more of a challenge than splicing a few wires
You are right, splicing and re-wiring is easy stuff - siwtching circiuts too. I had an eye on your headlight quandry but it looked like you were figuring it out on your own
I used relays in my lighting re-wiring setup so that the fog lights go off with the high beams(like thay are supposed to), and still work independantly of the park or headlamps
I think id just rather find an aftermarket ball bearing switch and wire the trunk lights with that, than rigging a socket/switch to work that way.
For now Im happy with a finger activated switch.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Hm. Brake light switch riding on the trunk hinge anyone? Would certainly do the job, tho it would probably require more fabrication than its worth.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

If I were you box town car guys I'd use that inside my rear reflector strip to make it glow like my town car does. That would look cool with that big rear strip between the tail lights glowing.Chris - A 20th Century Man \m/ ^.^ \m/

you read my mind - 1st we gotta get one out... those suckers are bolted into the filler panel with 2 screws on each side just above the bumper piston brackets... we lost that junkyard battle... :cuss:Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

I want to section light one. They have 3 panels, and I'm thinking left turn, right turn, and use the middle as a brake light. Would be really cool to do 2-stage lighting so it could light with running lamps, then get brighter for brake lights/turn signals.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

the warden JP seller seems to be out of the 1157 flux LED bulbs, but I found a new seller that has them for $9.99 + $9 shipping for the 1st pair, $4 additional. Its not quite $16 a pair like the other guy, just a couple bucks more.
This seller lists them as '18 LED' bulbs in the auction title, not 'flux' like the other guy.
This or the other should also have 3156 and 3157 bulbs for you freaks with newer panthers
