premium vs. standard sound info

I pulled the stereo out of the Cougar today to compare it to the stock stereo from the '88 GM. They are the same. Even the part numbers are the same: E6DF-14A459-C. It seems to work fine, so far. The '88 GM factory system was Premium Sound with 6 speakers. The '87 appears to be standard sound with 6 speakers. Just thought it was interesting since there was some argument about it over at Fox T-Bird/Cougar Forums.

If I didnt have a decent stereo inside the house, Id probably spend a lot more time in the car just to listen to music. :headbang:

Well, when I put the new head unit in, I ran new wire and installed Pioneers in the doors and in back. I would like a little more, but that will come when the money is there. Gotta be fast first.

I have the same head unit, and an all pioneer sound system in the mekr.

But with the exhaust the way it is, i havent been listening to the radio much :evil:

how did you get yours to set so far back? when i had the pioneer deck in my 89, i had to have it past the wood trim. the plastic trim ring on the deck didn't leave any gaps, but i would have preferred it farther back.

That's just how it set in the '88. I don't remember if there was a certain way to attach the rear and side clips or not so that it set back further.

could be differences in mounting arrangments and/or the mouting kit.

I couldn't get the trim ring to install on my stereo. I'm thinking about picking up another section of dash trim at the junkyard and experimenting with trimming the opening out a little with a dremel or something to clearance it so it looks right. Its not real bad but its not quite as good as I would like it to be.
