Interior lights stay off when rear doors open

Shouldn't the interior courtesey lights come on when any door opens? The lights work when the front doors are opened (or touched) and with the tailgate door as well. There ARE door switches on the rear doors, but no lighty.....so WTF?
The car is an '88 GM colony park waggin.
