    ok alternator harness question

I have the service manual for an 89 towncar for the body & chassis..I'm going to give this wiring thing a shot since I have a lot of time on my hands now that school is done. I'm going to get a 3G alternator or equivalent, and I want to redo the harness with a heavy duty one to run all the new fan equipment I'm going to install and future speaker amplifier. I see the harness go into the firewall and the whole deal is really wrapped up in tape and gooseneck. where do you start splicing bigger wires in? can you just buy a harness from somewhere to replace the stocker?

WHat I did with mine was just cut the big plug off and install ring terminals on the fat wires. I used a spade connector on the thin wire. Add a fat wire over to the battery, and thats really it. You can eliminate the portion of the stock harness from the fender to the alternator that has the heavy wires in it. Just unplug it. There will be a thin wire in that connector too. Just connect that directly to the output terminal on the back of the alternator, and run your heavy wire from that point.
