I think my 60Amp alt is failing, question about 3G

I am getting a AMP light at idle and only 12volts at the battery (Checked with meter) no matter what engine RPMs. I have had a power pulse in the dash lights and alt noise on the speakers since I bought it but I just assumed it was a iffy ground in the dash and had not looked into it. NOW, I have a 3G I pulled from a Taurus and the mega fuse with holder and 0Ga. wire for my Bronco but it has not been installed yet. The guides say that the mustang (Small Frame) is a direct fit for my 89 GM but that the Taurus is the large frame and fitment is theoretical. Has anyone used the larger Frame? Otherwise I might have to hit the yard Saturday to find a Alt but I have my doubts I will find one.

if it's from a 3.0L taurus... you're fine. If it's from a 3.8L taurus... you will need the large frame bracket (the curved top mount bracket).

It would come from a 93-99 non-DOHC, I THINK it will work.........

Guess i will have to do some comparison tonight.

This image nicely illustrates the difference, you should be able to eyeball it and it'll be obvious:

The Bronco calls for the "Narrow Tab" so I assume that is the small frame, I will measure up what I have.

To complicate matters there are different case sizes but what matters most is the overall dimension shown by Kishy. Some also require clocking, which is changing the front case to back case positioning. Taurus may not.

3.0 OHV Taurus alt in original config, mounted on a lopo, points the regulator connector at the power steering reservoir and because of the bolt hole for the extra brace, it forces the charge cable to go up towards the hood instead of straight across horizontally.

It's usable (I have 3 that way) but looks a little neater if you take it apart and re-clock it.

If you pulled the alternator off of a non-Duratec (non-DOHC) 3.0 V6 Taurus/Sable, you're fine. You'll just find the voltage regulator plug will be down on the right side of the alternator when mounted instead of on the top.

The V6 Mustang one from '94-'00 also drops right in. That one will have the voltage regulator at the top like the 2G alternator.

If I still trust the car once I get home I might run it down and have it checked.

Alt checked out at 14.4volts; didn't load test it. I am putting in new 0ga but I found this under the duct tape....

Had to mod the lower bracket but I got the new alt in with the original belt and had plenty of adjustment.

                          On to wiring now!
